A PINNING COMBINATION

How Marvin Traub Associates and Hook + Albert came together to raise vital funds for bladder cancer research.

Bladder cancer is one of the most underfunded cancer research areas. Despite the fact that it’s the fifth most common cancer overall, and the fourth most common in men, it receives 10-20 times less funding than other types like prostate and colorectal cancers. Considering its impact — an estimated 500,000 people are affected in the US alone, with 14,000 deaths annually — that funding gap needs to be closed. And that’s exactly what the folks at Marvin Traub Associates and Hook + Albert are hoping to do with their bladder cancer lapel pin, on sale now on Gilt MAN.

A joint effort from the up-and-coming accessories experts and the MTA team, the understated rosette comes in the official bladder cancer colors of navy, violet, and marigold, and the proceeds from its sale going to benefit the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and their work with bladder cancer research. So just by buying it, you’re helping the cause. But there’s more to this equation. Inspired by Movember’s success in raising both money and awareness for men’s health initiatives — not to mention getting the guys in this office to shave their beards — Marvin Traub Associates and Hook + Albert are launching the first annual Pin Down Bladder Cancer campaign this July (which is bladder cancer awareness month). The premise is simple: Wear your pin every day for the month, and ask your friends and family to sponsor you for at least $1 a day during that time. All you need to do to start things off is register a fundraising page for yourself or your team at the Pin Down Bladder Cancer page, then start talking to the people in your life about helping you raise vital dollars for a very worthy cause. Oh, and pick up that pin, of course.
